Know Why You Pay The Amount You Do For Car Insurance

The best way for you to drive your auto insurance premiums down is to know why they are priced the way they currently are in the first place.

I went to a local auto insurance Vancouver WA business, asked some questions, and quickly found out that the majority people have no idea why they pay what they pay for auto insurance.

Let's look at some of the factors that affects rates.

AGE

Your age has a huge influence on what you pay on an annual basis for automobile coverage. The younger you are the higher your monthly premiums will be. There is no way of getting around this. Statistics have shown that younger drivers are three times as likely to get into an automobile collision than older ones.

They are inexperienced and take more unnecessary risk on the road. Everyone knows that younger drivers, 16-25 years of age, are the riskiest people on the roads and highways today.

This section of the population makes up a small portion of the total driving public yet accounts for a large amount of the auto collisions that happen.

The older you get, and yet no control over this, the less you'll pay on a monthly basis for your auto insurance.

Location

The location of where you live also affect rates.

This is partly decided by what the weather is like where you live. It goes without saying that places with icy conditions and less than ideal conditions will be perceived as more of an insurance risk than places with nice weather.

What do you think is more dangerous to drive on? A clear paved road or one that has snow and ice on it.

Your ZIP code plays a part in determining automobile rates as well. Different areas of a city have various crime rates and premiums go up we live in a ZIP code that has a high rate of automobile thieft.

Marital Status

Many people will disagree on this point but unfortunately the numbers prove otherwise. Single people engage in more riskier behavior than married people.  Many people get mad because they feel they're being punished for not being married. But statistics prove that married people are safer drivers than this may be in part because they have more to lose in life.

Married people will usually own a home, have kids or eventually have kids, have assets, and will not engage in any sort of unnecessary behavior that will jeopardize any of those things.

Single people or more cavalier about their lifestyle and based on hard data are more of an insurance risk.

Your Vehicle

Whenever someone in Vancouver Washington, or anywhere in the country, gets into an automobile collision the type of vehicle he has his recorded. Over the last several decades insurance companies have stored data on which vehicles are more likely to be involved in collisions in which vehicles are more likely to be stolen.

You pay higher premiums when your car has been in a higher percentage of accidents than the national average or has been stolen more than the national average.

Sports cars are more expensive to get coverage for because of the type of driving people usually do in them. You are not going to buy a 2010 Mustang and always go the speed limit.

That is just not going to happen no matter what type of person you are. You're not going to buy a brand-new Corvette and not try to race it on the highway at least every once in a while. Insurance companies know this and charge twice as much to provide automobile insurance for them.

Driving Record

A person's driving record is considered when he is looking for insurance. If you have a high volume of speeding tickets or moving violations you will pay higher rates. Try to avoid excesses tickets and avoided all cause infractions that involve running a red light or failure to stop at a stop sign.

Of course, it goes without saying, that getting a ticket for driving under the influence will substantially raise your insurance rates and force you to get SR 22 insurance. SR 22 insurance is reserved for the riskiest drivers on the road and cost three times as much as conventional insurance does.

Credit

This is a fairly new thing and not all insurance companies do this. But, there has been a trend of partly basing insurance premiums on a person's credit. Many people do not know this but when you get an auto insurance quote your credit is briefly scanned. They feel that people with a higher credit score are more dependable than people with low credit scores.

Is this true or not? Does credit really affect driving habits? I highly doubt it but supposedly out to insurance companies have data to back it up. Personally, I think it's just another excuse to raise some people's insurance rates. But whether it's fair or not you it is one of the determining factors in what you pay for automobile coverage.

These are the six main factors that insurance companies use in determining what you pay in premiums. Keep in mind this and I have learned this over the last three years and my friend with the car insurance Vancouver WA company confirmed it.

The longer you stay within insurance company the less you'll pay. Sometimes you can even negotiate with them if you have been with the same company for a while.

There is a lot of competition in this industry and they appreciate long-term customers.
